1.
B.C. Lions (Last week: 1)
What a scary football team. Dave Dickenson gets hurt so Casey Printers
comes in and lights it up. By the end of their romp over Hamilton, even
the ushers at BC place were getting reps with offence. Up next, a trip
to Taylor Field to face the desperate Roughriders. |
2.
Toronto Argonauts (Last week: 5)
Saturday night's win over Edmonton was the ultimate example why Damon
Allen is the MVP of this team. With Allen in the lineup, the Argos
always have a chance to win. On Saturday, Allen only completed 11 passes
however three went for touchdowns. Two of his TDs were 89 and 90-yard
plays. Wednesday in Toronto, the Argos battle the high-flying Stampeders.
As long as Allen is upright, the Argos have a shot. |
3.
Edmonton Eskimos (Last week: 2)
Until late in the fourth quarter, Ricky Ray and the Eskimos offence
couldn't do anything right against the Argo defence. The Eskies are so
concerned with Sean Fleming, they brought in an American kicker for a
try out. Up next the Eskies host the dysfunctional Alouettes.

4.
Calgary Stampeders (Last week: 6)
It took a few weeks but the Stampeders have bought into what Tom Higgins
is selling. Henry Burris looks reborn under Higgins. Their dramatic
last-second win over the Als was proof positive that Calagary is a team
to beware of for the rest of season. |
5.
Ottawa Renegades (Last week: 3)
For a team that has boasted about their ability to win the turnover
battle, it all blew up in their face during a loss to Winnipeg. The 'Gades
were burned by too many turnovers and Kerry Joseph looked human. Up
next, a bye week before heading to Montreal on Labour Day weekend.
|
6.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Last week: 7)
Two straight wins has people starting to believe in the Blue Bombers
again. With games coming up against Hamilton this weekend and
Saskatchewan on Labour Day weekend, Winnipeg has fate in their own
hands. If the Bombers can win the next two games, they will erase the
memories of the first month of the season and get in the midst of the
playoff race out West. |
7.
Montreal Alouettes (Last week: 4)
Even the ever-confident Don Matthews admitted after their loss to
Calgary that his defence just couldn't make the plays when the team
needed it most. The Als offence can score, but on average, opposing
teams are scoring 30 points a game against the once-mighty defence. You
can be darn sure GM Jim Popp is going to start bringing in new bodies in
a real hurry if things don't change. Up next the Als take on the
Eskimos. |
8.
Saskatchewan Roughriders (Last week: 8)
Coming off a bye and seeing the Bombers are beathing down their necks,
Danny Barrett needs to pull out all the stops and find a way to prepare
his team for the Lions. A win over B.C. would have a huge effect in the
standings and most off all in the Riders dressing room. The Roughrides
need some positive karma -- beating B.C. sounds good to me. |
9.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Last week: 9)
A few weeks ago, the Ticats almost won their first game of the year only
to have B.C. squeak out a win in Hamilton. Friday night, the Ticats took
a beating as they fell to an 0-8 record for the second time in the last
three seasons. Greg Marshall is dying a thousand deaths and there
doesn't seem to be any way to stop the bleeding. Up next, the resurgent
Blue Bombers will be at Ivor Wynne Stadium. After that, the Ticats have
a home-and-home with the Argos. All of a sudden, 1-17 is looking like a
distinct possibility. |
